Alex Porter


​Alex Porter has been part of the dance world for 18 years! She grew up dancing at Wakulla Dance Academy! Miss. Alex won many group and individual awards as a part of WDA’s competition team and continues to excel as a dancer and a choreographer.  She teaches a wide range of classes at Wakulla Dance Academy including our Parent and Me classes, Tap and Hip Hop, and Ballet. Alex is passionate about instilling proper dance technique in a fun, nurturing environment. Miss. Alex loves teaching at Wakulla Dance Academy and watching her students learn and grow.

Carolyn Englert


Carolyn's dance career began at The Ballet Conservatory in Winter Haven, FL when she was 5 years old. Her dance education was based heavily in ballet following the Chechetti method and testing, moving up through student levels I-IV. Carolyn danced for a competition studio through high school getting to compete at a national level. During summers in NY she was able to take classes at Broadway Dance Center in the heart of the NYC dance community as well as taking master classes from choreographers such as Stepp Stewart, Tyce Diorio, and Travis Wall. Carolyn earned a B.S. in Family and Child Sciences with a concentration in Early Childhood Development from FSU. While at FSU she took dance classes within the FSU Dance department and interned with The Tallahassee Ballet. She has previously taught ballet for TTB and Dancing Little Stars. Carolyn loves bringing the art form of ballet to the next generation of dancers. She has a passion for dance education and loves seeing her students master new skills! She is so excited to meet all of you and get dancing!!!

Caylie Bussey


​Caylie Bussey is excited to be teaching another year at Wakulla Dance Academy! She teaches classes to our preschool and elementary school aged students in all styles ranging from ballet to hip hop! Caylie received her training at WDA and has won many high score awards for her solo and group performances. Caylie is currently a student at TCC with plans to attend FSU in the spring.

Hayley Mahaffey


​Hayley Mahaffey is the founder/director of Wakulla Dance Academy. At the age of four, Hayley began dancing at Hope’s Dance Center where she began performing competitively in dance and cheerleading. She was the captain of her cheerleading squad, cheered for six years and has judged several dance and cheer tryouts. She graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Psychology, where she continued her dance education, taking ballet and jazz at the FSU School of Dance. Ms. Hayley was an instructor for three years at Star Dance Academy in Titusville, FL and taught for one year at the Quincy Country Club. Ms. Hayley is a certified Yoga instructor and continues her dance training by attending dance conventions each year, taking classes from the best teachers, dancers and choreographers in the business. Recently, Ms. Hayley received her dance teacher certification from UNLV!!! Ms. Hayley is so proud of the students and instructors at Wakulla Dance Academy and is thankful to have them in her life.

Kristin Weaver


​​Kristin Weaver has been in the dance business since the age of 3. She received her degree from the University of Florida in nursing with a minor in dance. During her college years, Kristin was a member and officer of the Danza Dance Company where she was recognized for her technique and choreography.  Kristin is also well known to the world of dance competitions where she has served as a judge at regional competitions throughout the country. Prior to moving to Crawfordville, Kristin taught at one of the largest dance studios in Broward County and worked as a director for their competition dance team, choreographing and staging pieces from solos to productions. Her dances continue to win overall titles and her students can be found around the globe dancing at universities, on cruise ships, in companies, working as dance photographers and as artistic directors/owners of various dance companies and studios. Kristin is extremely proud of her students’ accomplishments this year and can’t wait to watch them grow in years to come!

Madison Metcalf


​Madison Metcalf teaches clogging and Musical Theater at WDA. Ms. Madison was recently accepted to FSU where she is double majoring in Theater and Public Relations. Ms. Madison recently appeared in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, Mamma Mia, and Hair.  Ms. Madison sees teaching as a part of a bigger learning experience because she is open to learning new sequences and then teaching them to her students. She is very grateful for the opportunity that Wakulla Dance Academy has given her and we are grateful to have her!

Olivia Hopkins


​Olivia Hopkins is a recent graduate of Florida State University with a BFA in Dance and a minor in Business. She trains in all forms of dance, but especially enjoys jazz, contemporary, and modern. At Florida State, she was a third-year member and a three-year liaison in the Student-Athlete Advisory Council for the FSU Golden Girls, the school’s official dance team. Hopkins has experience teaching beginner to intermediate ballet, contemporary, jazz, and hip hop in a private studio and recreational community. Olivia was awarded the Gold medal in Dance at the NAACP ACT-SO competition. At Florida State University, she was recognized as a Seminole Torchbearer and a recipient of the Torchbearer 100 for her outstanding leadership in the community. She has worked as a dancewear model for Body Wrappers/Angelo Luzio as a Models at Large Social Media Representative, has performed work by premiere choreographers, trained under notable FSU professors, and choreographed several concert and competitive pieces of her own. Olivia is also a first-year (online) Cleo II member, a pre-professional apprentice company, for the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble in Denver, Colorado. She is currently attending Florida State University to earn her MBA in Human Resources!
